Three species of american Wolves

Experts disagree on the exact taxonomic status of American wolves, all of which have Latin names starting with Canis, but the general consensus is that there are three distinct species of American wolf: the gray wolf (C. lupus), the American red wolf (C. rufus), and the Eastern wolf (C. lycaon). There are numerous subspecies of gray wolf.
